WASHINGTON, May 4, 2012 (Reuters) — The U.S. economy needs faster employment growth to fill a huge jobs deficit, but was making progress despite a weaker payrolls figure in April Windows 7 Activation Key, a senior White House economic advisor said on Friday.

“We see a picture of the economy healing Office 2011 MAC Key,” Alan Krueger, chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, told CNBC.

“Given the problems that the economy has had over the past decade Office Stand-Alone Programs, we need faster growth; we have a very large jobs deficit, we are making progress. We need to do the things to continue to build on that progress.”

Employers added 115,000 new jobs to payrolls in April after hiring 154,000 workers in March. While the unemployment rate fell to 8.1 percent, it was largely the result of people giving up the search for work and leaving the workforce.

Welcome to my new feature ‘Career Chat’ where I will be grabbing industry professionals for a coffee and a chinwag (or a quick email) about how to bag that dream job. I’ll be picking their brains on what it takes to climb the ladder of success and how to stand out from the crowd. Meet my first guest replica watches, Ben Cooper, Travel Editor for ELLEuk and Red Online.

EG: Hi Ben. Nice to meet you. As the Travel Editor for ELLEuk and Red Online, what’s your favourite part of the job?

BC: Hello. You, too.
I’d obviously be lying if I said it wasn’t getting paid to travel and visit amazing hotels. I’m a bit of an online geek, though, so the challenges of making words and pictures (and sometimes a bit of code) keep me in a job, comes a very close second.

EG: You started your career at the Observer, was it then that you realised you wanted a career in the media?

BC: Before then. The Observer work I got was as a result of a lot of hard graft put in on my Leeds University student newspaper, followed by more hard graft in the holidays making tea and opening the post, before eventually I got given some editorial bits and pieces to do. Then I worked hard to build up a portfolio of good work.

EG: Where do you find inspiration for the content on the site?
BC: Talking to people mainly. Other writers, editors and friends in the industry – and, yes replica watches, sometimes PRs. Keeping on top of what’s going on via Twitter is key, too.

EG: You must travel around a lot, what’s your most memorable experience so far?

BC: I often find there’s a difference between how ‘good’ a hotel is (design, service, food etc.) and how much I enjoy my stay – and my extension how memorable it is. If I’m being honest, usually the more self-consciously high-class any of those aspects are, the less I tend to actually enjoy it.

A case in point was a stay at The Bath Arms in Longleat. It was in the run-up to Red Online’s launch. I was knackered. We got there about 9pm on a Friday night after a long drive in the rain. We went inside to find a buzzy pub, roaring fires and good food (and some strong complimentary firewater in the rooms). The next day, I sat nursing a hangover in front of the fire, writing reviews and being served Bloody Marys by the friendly manager. Was it amazingly luxurious? No. Did I have a great time? Absolutely.

On a similarly relaxed note, I had an amazing stay at Casa La Siesta in southern Spain recently. Yes, the interiors are fabulous and the setting is beautiful, but it’s the relaxed vibe of the place that makes it so special.
All that having been said, a honeymoon at L’Heure Bleue in Essaouira was pretty out-of-this-world…

EG: When receiving press releases or invitations, what sort of thing tends to catch your eye the most?

BC: That it’s what I’m looking for, when I’m looking for it. So the eye-catching thing would be that the sender has read, and has a good understanding, of the site(s) and what goes on it. In the vast majority of cases, don’t come to me, I’ll come to you would be my preferred approach. Other than new openings (hotels and restaurants) I don’t really want to hear about a timely (and PR-driven) spin on something like the Diamond Jubilee, or an interview with a CEO, or the launch of an ‘exciting new app’ (unless it really is exciting).
PRs should make themselves readily available by updating their websites with recent clients and contact details replica watches, shouldn’t be afraid to introduce themselves via Twitter (it’s @ben_coop)… and, please, shouldn’t ever call on the off-chance!

EG: What is your advice for graduates or anyone hoping to make it in the world of journalism?

BC: Be prepared to do it for the love first. And then probably keep doing it for quite some time. Almost no one, no matter how brilliant they are as an under-graduate, walks into a role these days with a box-fresh degree in English or Journalism and no, or not much, writing experience. I’d also recommend trying to specialise as early as possible – there’s simply too much competition for generalists.

Beyond that, having online experience – even if it’s just updating your daily blog – is never going to hurt. Nor is an understanding of social media.

Jerusalem – The Kiryat Hayovel neighborhood in Jerusalem will be the future site of a secular yeshiva and pre-army program, the Jerusalem municipality announced on Sunday in the latest step of the neighborhood saga that has pitted ultra-Orthodox residents against secular and national-religious residents.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat announced that the Warburg compound in the neighborhood will not be dedicated to haredi educational institutions, as had been decided by the previous mayor, Uri Lupoliansky, who is haredi.

The Jerusalem Secular Yeshiva, which provides 15 students with a four-month intensive learning and onsite living program, will move to Kiryat Hayovel from the neighborhood of Ein Kerem, where it has been based for the past year. The program is aimed at bringing people post-army to Jerusalem and to help them create a connection with the city that encourages them to stay in the capital. The yeshiva is a branch of the Bina Secular Yeshiva in Tel Aviv, which was founded ten years ago.

Kiryat Hayovel Tattoo Machine Tattoo, located in the southwest of Jerusalem, is one of the poorest neighborhoods in Jerusalem and tension has risen as ultra-Orthodox have began to flock to the cheaper rents.

In recent years, activist organizations such as Ruah Hadasha (New Spirit) have created communes and purchasing groups of young families who buy apartments together to counter the growing haredi influence in the area.

The municipality has defined the neighborhood as a “priority area” to receive extra spending in both physical improvements – including construction of sidewalks and repaving roads – as well as community programs such as after-school initiatives.

Barkat said on Sunday that he was “investing a lot of energy into making Kiryat Hayovel a vibrant and attractive neighborhood for young families,” and that the secular yeshiva and pre-army seminary are part of that vision.

“Jerusalem is the spiritual center of all citizens What Are The Best Tattoo Machines, and we’re trying to make sure it will also be the spiritual center for secular people,” said Ariel Levinson Tattoo Machines, the head of curriculum and the administrative committee of the secular yeshiva.

Levinson was quick to point out that the secular yeshiva’s new location is not meant to be antagonistic to Kiryat Hayovel’s haredi population, and that the institution also attracts haredi participants at some programs.

City councilor Yitzhak Pindrus (United Torah Judaism) – who has been a vocal supporter of increasing the number of institutions in the haredi community, especially in Kiryat Hayovel – refused to comment on the matter.

Through the release of the documentary ‘A Girl Is a Fellow Hereʼ – 100 Women Architects in the Studio of Frank Lloyd Wright, Beverly Willis, the film’s producer, is seeking to set the record straight — that female architects have contributed much more to the well-built environment than they have ever been given credit for. Omitted from the history books, the work of these ‘well-built women’ has never been clearly chronicled, clouded by a society that tends to honor women more for their physical measurements rather than for their ability to actually take measurements.

But for many decades, female architects have proven themselves highly skilled at mastering compasses, protractors and other professional measurement tools, carving out blueprints for some of the most creatively designed buildings gracing the twentieth century landscape. From downtown Buffalo’s Lafayette Hotel (completed in 1905) to the Lookout Studio at the Grand Canyon National Park (completed in1914), to Saddle River, NJ’s Alford/Nixon House (completed in 1971), just to name a few, female architects have long-been transforming industry culture through architecture, design and construction.

So why is it so important to now set the record straight? “Because the future is based on the past,” Willis says, “and young female architects need mentors, just like anyone else.” That is one of the main reasons why Willis launched the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation (BWAF) because, even today, only a small percentage of women are entering professional degree programs such as architecture, engineering and construction management. And, even when they do, their representation in leadership at the largest of these firms is still under 5 percent, succumbing to what Willis calls a ‘leaky pipeline’ of low retention rates. “And, if not patched correctly,” Willis says, “this leak will submerge growth in other important areas as well, affecting our economy as a whole.”

Just take a look at recent research showing the impact of higher gender diversity on levels of business success. Research from Deloitte suggests that investment in women is the next source of substantial economic growth, for firms and countries, with direct correlations between increases in women in the workforce and increases in National GDP (Gross Domestic Product). Termed the ‘Gender Dividend,’ a positive and often double-digit difference was found in productivity between those organizations with more women as leaders, compared to those with fewer. But numbers on a spreadsheet tell only part of the story. A 2011 study conducted by researchers at Catalyst, a leading women’s think tank, and Harvard Business School further suggests that what’s good for women is not only good for business, but also for society as a whole. The study, ‘Gender and Corporate Social Responsibility: It’s a Matter of Sustainability,’ indicates that companies with more women at the top may be better practitioners of corporate social responsibility (CSR), thereby supporting a much more comprehensive ‘triple bottom line’ which includes people, planet and profit. For not only do responsible, sustainable and transparent business approaches help build brand and reputation, they also help strengthen the community and thus the marketplace, helping to build a sustainable and profitable future for all.

Further, according to a newly released study by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR), three of the most common occupations for women, ‘cashiers,’ ‘waitresses,’ and ‘maids and household cleaners Buy Chanel Dresses,’ have median earnings for a full week of work that provide less than 100 percent of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ federal poverty levels for a family of four. Add this to the gender wage gap within occupations (where women currently earn 82 cents for every dollar a man earns), and the gender wage gap between occupations only amplifies this discrepancy. Tackling occupational segregation is therefore just as important as tackling the gender wage gap, and engaging women in the field of architecture provides a strong opportunity to help bridge this divide.

But no one knows this better than Beverly Willis. After having led her own firm in the male-dominated architectural field for over 35 years, her foundation is now documenting womenʼs work, educating the public Christian Audigier Clothing sale, and transforming industry culture through collaborations with museums, professional organizations, and others in the areas of architecture, design, engineering, technology, real estate, and construction. Viewing today’s economic times as particularly crucial, Willis hopes to illuminate this enormous transformation by blending opportunities for the future while documenting the past, and will be advancing this message at BWAF’s upcoming June 5th event aptly entitled, ‘A View from the Future.’

And let’s hope this works, since it won’t be good for anyone if we have to go back to the drawing board.
